Carr will perform at the Sunday worship service September 17 at 10 a.m. at Hendricks Chapel.
A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Kurt Carr studied classical voice and piano at the University of Connecticut. He has performed at the White House, the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, the Hollywood Bowl, and Carnegie Hall.
With over 20 years of experience in gospel music, Carr has delivered some of its most recognized songs, including “The Presence of the Lord Is Here”; “I Almost Let Go”; “I Never Lost My Praise”; “God Great God”; “Be Blessed”; “For Every Mountain” (which won a Grammy when recorded by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir), and “We Lift Our Hands In The Sanctuary” from the RIAA Certified GOLD CD Awesome Wonder, has sold close to a million copies.
Carr has garnered many prestigious awards and honors, including eight Stellar Awards, one GMA Dove Award, induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, two Grammy nominations, and the Special Honors Award given by his fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Inc. He was recently honored with the BMI Trail Blazer Award, alongside his heroes Edwin and Tramaine Hawkins. He has also received top honor at the 28th Annual Stellar Awards, receiving The James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award.
